UMAP 1st Board Meeting 2018On April 25, 2018, the First UMAP Board Meeting 2018 was held at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) GSB in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. There were representatives from Brunei, China, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. Canada and Mexico also submitted the Power of Attorney. One of the significant decisions was to approve the establishment of sub-National Secretariats in eligible UMAP countries/territories, which will enable UMAP to expand its network and activate programs. After the productive meeting, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) hosted Board Members to dinner and and a tour of Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.
UMAP is looking forward to continuing discussions and developing further collaborations. |

Call for UMAP Research Net 2018Proposal collections for the UMAP Research Net (URN) 2018 has just started. With URN, UMAP aims to promote academic mobility and collaboration, and to promote effective interaction and exchange among scholars, researchers, and educators across cultures. A research funding of up to 5,000 USD will be provided to selected works. Deadline for proposal submission is June 4, 2018. Participation in APAIE 2018 ConferenceOn March 27-28, UMAP participated in the APAIE 2018 Conference at Sands Expo & Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. UMAP 2nd Task Force MeetingOn March 26, 2018, representatives from USA (New York and Hawaii), Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan and UMAP IS met at the 2nd Task Force Meeting for “UMAP’s Organizational Development” at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. During the meeting, the representatives discussed the possible revision of the UMAP membership fee structure and diversification of revenue sources. The meeting results will be submitted at the UMAP Board Meeting in April in Malaysia. In the beginning of the Task Force meeting, Dr. Randall Martin, Executive Director of British Columbia Council for International Education (BCCIE), which recently joined UMAP as National Secretariat of Canada, delivered a speech expressing Canada’s intention to join UMAP and outlined their strategies to utilize the UMAP network. In addition, Dr. George Sipos, Senior International Officer at SUNY College at Brockport, delivered his address about future collaboration between the SUNY system and the UMAP network.
Task Force members expressed delight that the UMAP network is significantly expanding this year.

Start of Student Application for UMAP SSTP (Program C)We are pleased to announce the start of student applications for the Super Short-Term Programs (SSTP) offered by member universities of UMAP. If you are interested in participating in one of these programs, please review the information in the following link about the programs’ contents, length, available credits, and tuition and other fees before applying: http://umap.org/programs/c/ The application period will run from April 6th until June 17th, 2018. (Please note that there are two cutoff dates, where applications will arrive to the UMAP IS and be nominated to each host university, as follows: May 8th and June 17th)
*Notice to Students: please DO NOT SEND your applications directly to the UMAP International Secretariat! We will not accept them from students. Instead, please contact the UMAP Coordinator of your home university. If you do not know the person, please inquire the person in charge of the International Student Exchange at your home university. Ad Hoc Meeting in Washington D.C.On February 19, 2018, the UMAP International Secretariat (Prof. Shingo Ashizawa) along with eight additional specialists from Canada, ISEP, U.S.A., and Japan had an ad hoc meeting at Marriot Wardman Park, Washington, D.C. Topics such as ‘promotional activities and membership development of UMAP in North America’ were discussed. The potential development of new programs which attract universities and students in North America was also introduced at the meeting. |
