Start of Student Application for the 2nd Cycle of Program A&B 2019-1 (Autumn 2019)

Dear Students who plan to apply for UMAP Program A&B 2019-1 (for Autumn Semester 2019)

 

We are pleased to announce that the second cycle of student applications for Programs A&B 2019-1 (Autumn 2019) has started. If you are interested in participating in one of these programs, please review the information on the website (https://usco.umap.org) about the programs’ contents, length, available credits, language requirement, and fees before applying.

Beginning the previous cycle, all transactions in the application procedure, such as submission of student applications, nominations by home institutions, and acceptance or refusal by host institutions, have been completed using the USCO System.

 

To apply, the following three steps need to be completed by March 5, 2019:

REGISTRATION — Students should create an account on the UMAP Student Connection Online (USCO) System by registering their email address and password (https://usco.umap.org/std/). For more information about the USCO System, students can check the Student User Manual through this link (http://umap.org/usco/#students-manual). 

APPLICATION — Students complete the Application Form in the USCO System for up to five preferred programs and click  “Save and Submit”. The USCO System will automatically inform the UMAP coordinators at the home university/institution that an application has been submitted. Applications will be accepted from February 16 through March 5.

NOMINATION  Coordinators log into the USCO System and check the applications they have received, and nominate up to two students by clicking “Approve as Program A”.   Institutions with additional quotas for outbound students are able to nominate additional students according to the number of quotas they have available. Any additional students you want to nominate can be approved for Program B. Please note:  Students in Program B may be required by their host institutions to pay tuition fees.

Please note;
1.  Only institutions that participate in the 2nd cycle are able to send their students to other participating institutions during the cycle. The list of participating institutions can be checked here.

2.  For Program A-Tuition waived exchange students: Institutions can nominate up to two (2) students per semester; however, institutions that have accepted additional students in the past are able to nominate an equal number of additional students.

3.  For Program B-Tuition non-waived exchange students: Institutions can also nominate additional students for Program B if they do not have quotas available for nominating them for Program A. Following the placement period, host institutions notify accepted students about whether they will study abroad on a tuition-waived or non-waived basis.

AIEA Annual Conference 2019 Report

UMAP IS and TOYO University co-hosted a booth as Gold Sponsor during the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA) 2019 Annual Conference that was held in San Fransisco, California, USA from 20th to 23rd January 2019; and had three sessions with the following presenters:

“Next Generation Mobility Networks: Development of New Multilateral Consortia”
The following presenters described the benefits of an open membership network:

  • Dr. John S. Lucas, President and CEO of International Student Exchange Programs (ISEP)

“Building Strategic Partnerships for Student Mobility in the Asia Pacific Region”
Representatives from two major private universities in Tokyo (Waseda and Toyo introduced their efforts to increase partnerships in the US. The audience also learned about new initiatives of UMAP (University Mobility in Asia and Pacific).

Plenary Luncheon”

Deputy Director for Center for Global Education and Exchange/Associate Professor, Faculty of Law, Toyo University presented significant internationalized programs of Toyo University, and introduced UMAP on behalf of Secretary General of UMAP International Secretariat which has been served by Toyo University since 2016.

Student Application for UMAP Program C 2019

Greetings from UMAP International Secretariat!

We are pleased to announce that the start of Student Application for UMAP Program C (January Application) has begun on Saturday, January 12th 2019.

There are three cut-off dates for the student application period as shown below and currently only Program C (January Application) is publicized.

  1. Program C (January Application) :1st Cycle from Jan. 12th to Jan. 23rd
  2. Program C (March-May Application):1st Cycle from March 1st to March 23rd
  3. Program C (March-May Application):2nd Cycle from Apr. 25th to May 28th

For applications procedure, please refer to this page.

Please note;

  1. Only students of universities/institutions that have signed the “Pledge of Agreement” are able to apply for those programs. However, unlike Program A&B, their home universities/institutions do not have to participate or offer this program in order for the student to participate in this specific program.
  2. There are no limits for the number of nominees from home universities/institutions.
  3. We only accept applications with endorsements (applications that were approved) from home universities/institutions. Please kindly support students toward their research for suitable programs and check the programs’ contents, length, available credits, and Tuition fees before applying.
  4. Please follow the Timeline of each cycle, because all transactions in the application procedure (such as submission of student applications) of nominations by home institutions and acceptance/ refusal by host institutions, will be completed using the USCO System. For the detail, please refer to the attached Timeline.

Season’s Greetings from UMAP!

Season’s Greetings from UMAP!

It is almost the end of a productive and rewarding 2018. We would like to show you some of UMAP’s activities that have been successfully achieved throughout the year:

New UMAP member institutions

  • 30 institutions from 13 countries signed up to join UMAP network as member institutions.

Re-establishment of UMAP Student Connection Online (USCO) System

  • A user-friendly platform for students, home institutions and host institutions.
  • Increased efficiency for communication, data storage and synchronization.
  • The USCO System is also in use for admission of Program A/B, from 2019’s Autumn semester.

UMAP Discovery Camp 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand (July 22nd – August 4th)

  • Organized by the Office of Higher Education and three co-host: Bangkok University, Chulalongkorn University and King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi.
  • 40 international students from 28 universities from 9 countries participated in the summer program to engage in a journey of self-discovery and exploration of Thai culture.

UMAP International Forum in Osaka, Japan (September 24th)

  • The Forum focused on “Student Mobility in the Asia-Pacific Region and Japan’s Role”.
  • 100 professors, scholars, government officials and other delegates from the Asia-Pacific region attended the Forum that was held at Osaka University of Commerce.

We would like to express our sincerest appreciation to all UMAP National Secretariats, member universities and students all over the world for their active participation and generous support in making these achievements possible.

We wish you a peaceful holiday season and a wonderful New Year!

Announcement for the 4th KU-COIL/ IIGE Workshop and International Symposium 2018 “Innovative Ideas and Practices for Global Education in the 21st Century”, 7-9 December 2018

We are pleased to announce that the first cycle of student applications for Programs A&B 2019-1 (Autumn 2019) has started. If you are interested in participating in one of these programs, please review the information on the website (https://usco.umap.org) about the programs’ contents, length, available credits, language requirement and fees before applying.

The application deadline for UMAP Coordinators at your home institution is 1 December 2018; therefore, you need to submit your application according to the adapted schedule of your home institution.

For the acceptance of students’ applications, the following three steps must be completed:

Please note;
1.  Only those students whose universities/institutions have participated in this program are eligible to apply to other participating universities/institutions. Please confirm the list of Participating Universities/Institutions by checking the website (https://usco.umap.org/).

2.  You must be a student currently enrolled in one of Participating universities/institution and at the time of completion of study abroad, you must still be a student of that university/institution. If you graduate from your university/institution before the end of the program, you will not be eligible to apply.

3.  A maximum of two (2) students can be nominated by each university/institution per semester (Program A); regardless, it may be possible to nominate additional students on a fee-paying basis depending on the policies of the host institutions (Program B).

New membership of Kyrgyz with UMAP

On Wednesday, October 17, UMAP was delighted to welcome the Kyrgyz Republic to be part of UMAP. Specifically, Kyrgyz State University I.Arabaev will serve as the National Secretariat of Kyrgyz.

With the participation of Kyrgyz, UMAP now is comprised of 19 member countries. We strongly hope to see more remarkable progress on the movement of student mobility amongst Kyrgyz and other member countries.
