The Pillars of UMAP: National Secretariats
At the heart of University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific (UMAP) are our National Secretariats, which serve as the vital link between our global network and the higher education institutions within their respective countries or territories.
The Role of a National Secretariat
The National Secretariat functions as the primary point of contact and coordination for member institutions. This critical role ensures that each member is actively engaged, well-represented and fully integrated into the UMAP framework. Key responsibilities include:
- Coordination: Facilitating the payment of annual membership fees.
- Vetting: Nominating eligible member institutions for participation.
- Promotion: Actively championing UMAP’s programs and initiatives within their region.
Becoming a National Secretariat
We welcome dedicated UMAP member institutions to apply for this leadership position. To be considered for a National Secretariat role, an institution must submit a formal proposal for review and approval by the UMAP Board.
A complete proposal package includes:
- Statement of Intent: A formal letter from an authorized representative outlining the institution’s interest and its strategy for representing the diverse range of higher education providers in their country or territory.
- Government Recognition: Official documentation confirming the institution’s standing with its national government.
- Accreditation Status: Valid documentation verifying the institution’s current accreditation.
Submission & Approval Process
All application materials should be submitted directly to the UMAP International Secretariat. Upon receipt, the International Secretariat will conduct a thorough review of the documentation before presenting the proposal for consideration at the next scheduled UMAP Board meeting.
We look forward to collaborating with institutions that share our commitment to fostering academic mobility and cross-cultural exchange.
