Winter Discovery Camp, Kyrgyzstan

Discover Kyrgyzstan – the country of Heavenly Mountains, with I Arabaev Kyrgyz State University. The winter camp program provides for 10 thematic days – students will be presented with exciting programs on the history of Kyrgyzstan, on the role and rights of Kyrgyz women in ancient and modern society, on art and traditions through their philosophical understanding, on the potential of Kyrgyzstan in the field of tourism, in a cyclical economy (world experience and implementation in everyday life), in the field of education and partnership; about innovative technologies in handicraft and construction.

The program will consist of mini-lectures from doctors of sciences and professors, guests from government departments, embassies, famous personalities, video presentations, discussions, master classes, case studies / subgroup work, homework, site visits, theatrical performances, concert programs, trips to picturesque places of the country and cultural centers of the capital. The program will address UN Sustainable Development Goals: 4,5,6,7,8,9,12, and 17.

UMAP-COIL Training Program 2022-23 – Apply now to participate!

The UMAP Networking and Partnership Development Initiative continues into 2023, following two successful virtual networking sessions with UMAP members from around the consortium. 

In Phase 2 of the initiative, interested participants are invited to apply for the “UMAP-COIL Training Program” a three-week online Introduction to COIL course, offered by Keiko IKEDA, Professor/Vice-Director, Kansai University’s Institute for Innovative Global Education (IIGE) and trusted training experts.  The program is co-sponsored by the UMAP Canada National Secretariat, BC Council for International Education.

The online program will cover topics including:  Introduction to COIL, overview of technology and tools, how to find a partner, designing a course, and evaluation.  The course will take place from January 16-February 3, 2023 and will include three mandatory synchronous 90-minute classes:

  1. Thursday January 19 (4:30pm, Vancouver / 6:30pm, Mexico City / 9:30pm Santiago) / Friday January 20 (6:00am, Delhi /7:30am, Surabaya/ 8:30am, Manila / 9:30am, Tokyo)  
  2. Thursday January 26 (4:30pm, Vancouver / 6:30pm, Mexico City / 9:30pm Santiago) / Friday January 27 (6:00am, Delhi /7:30am, Surabaya/ 8:30am, Manila / 9:30am, Tokyo
  3. Thursday February 2 (4:30pm, Vancouver / 6:30pm, Mexico City / 9:30pm Santiago) / Friday February 3 (6:00am, Delhi /7:30am, Surabaya/ 8:30am, Manila / 9:30am, Tokyo) 

All interested faculty, staff, and administrators from  UMAP member institutions are invited to apply.  A maximum of 80 participants can be included in the course, therefore, we may not be able to include all applicants.  The deadline for applications is December 2, 2022. Selected applicants will be informed by December 19, 2022.

Winter Discovery Camp, India

Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) have joined forces to offer UMAP Discovery Camp 2030: The Future is Now .  The program will have a serious focus on SDGS related to EEE i.e Equality, Energy and Environment. 

KIIT and KISS at the forefront of sustainability work in teaching and research, the university has been highly ranked three years in a row in Times Higher Education’s ranking for its work towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. KIIT has recently been placed in the cohort of 600-800 in World University ranking 2023 by Times Higher Education. Students from all UMAP member universities are welcome to work in teams at KIIT and KISS University to address real life challenges related to SDGs such as: Reduced inequality, Affordable and clean Energy, Sustainable production and consumption, and strong, democratic and engaging institutions for all. The winter camp aims to facilitate student-community involvement, enhance intercultural skills, and build relationships between participants from different cultures. Our social programme will include a welcome and farewell ceremony as well as day trips and social activities, allowing students to experience sustainability initiatives. Students will learn through lectures on each topic which will majorly include sessions on-

  • Overview of progress towards the agenda 2030 and the SDGs
  • Inequality and indigenous experience
  • Implementation of practical energy efficiency measures
  • Environment protection and Sustainability

Fall 2023 Application timeline now open

The Fall 2023 Program A/B Timeline is now open.  Institutions interested in participating in the Fall 2023 application cycle may upload their program offerings from now until December 7, 2022 for the first application cycle and until March 30, 2023 to participate in the second application cycle.

USCO2 will be open to student applicants and institutional nomination from December 9, 2022 to January 31, 2023 for the first application cycle and from April 3 through April 27 for the second application cycle.
