Start of Student Application for the 2nd Cycle of Program C 2019

Greetings from UMAP!

We are pleased to announce that the 2nd cycle of student applications for Program C 2019 has started today (April 25th)!

The deadline for the application is May 28th. Please read the following informations carefully, so that you’re application process will go smoothly!

 

 

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

  1. REGISTRATION — Students sign up on the USCO System here: https://usco.umap.org/std/
  2. APPLICATION — Students fill in the Application Form in the USCO System by choosing up to 3 preferred programs and then click “Save and Submit”.
  3. NOMINATION — Coordinators log in to the USCO System to check the received applications and then nominate students by clicking “Approve”.

    The USCO System will automatically inform the UMAP coordinators at the home university/institution that an application has been submitted.

Start of Student Application for the UMAP-COIL Honors Program 2019

Greetings from UMAP International Secretariat!

 

We are pleased to announce that the application for UMAP-COIL Honors Program 2019 is now open.

 

UMAP-COIL is a program where up to 25 students participate in a two-week Peace Boat cruise in the Asia-Pacific region, departing from Osaka and then making stops at various ports for a half-day of field work, as well as university visits in Japan, South Korea, and Russia. The cruise will be enhanced by utilizing the COIL-style educational method.

 

COIL stands for “Collaborative Online International Learning”, a form of teaching which uses Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to connect students in different countries so that they can participate together in projects designed to boost their understanding of various fields or to help them acquire specific skills.

ELIGIBILITY:
Students between the ages of 18 and 35* who are currently enrolled in academic institutions participating in UMAP’s pledged institutions or whose Pledge of Agreement (PoA) is scheduled to be confirmed during 2019, with a minimum GPA of 3.0, and adequate command of English.

 

APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
STEP 1:

② Transcripts in English (first year students will need a letter of recommendation from a faculty member if they are unable to prepare any transcripts)
③ Statement of Purpose
④ Letter of Recommendation from a member of the University
⑤ English Language Ability Certification (students who completed their primary education in English do not need to submit certification)

UMAP Discovery Camp 2019

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

  1. Name of Program: UMAP Discovery Camp 2019 in Taipei, Taiwan

  2. Organizers:
    1. Ministry of Education (Taiwan)
    2. UMAP Taiwan National Secretariat
    3. Fu Jen Catholic University (Taiwan)

  3. Dates: August 4 – August 17, 2019

  4. Venue: Fu Jen Catholic University

  5. Theme: Contemporary Taiwan

  6. Objectives:
    1. To fulfill UMAP’s mission of enhancing international understanding by boosting student mobility between UMAP member countries.
    2. To offer students opportunities to learn about the cultures, environment, and society of Taiwan in English.
    3. To encourage students to be socially aware, active global citizens through engagement and participation in discovery camp activities.

  7. Content:
    UMAP Discovery Camp 2019 consists of two major components: (1) the economy; and (2) society/culture. The economic component includes three lectures which discuss Taiwan’s past economic achievements, current challenges, and future prospects. Field trips are included as an accompaniment to the lectures, so students can have an up-close view on the latest economic developments in Taiwan. The social/cultural component of the program introduces the history and society of Taiwan, as well as how Western culture has merged with more traditional cultures here. The topics covered include history, religion, and indigenous cultures.

  8. Participants: A total of 40 students may participate
    1. 30 international students from UMAP Member Countries.
    2. 10 local students.

  9. Fees:
    1. Costs associated with the courses, field trips, visits, and accommodation are covered by the organizers.
    2. Participants are responsible for arranging travel to and from Taiwan and for expenses such as health insurance, meals, commuting, and other personal expenses.

  10. Credit & Certificate
    Students who complete the entire program (i.e. all lectures and activities) will earn 4 credits (72 study hours) as well as a Certificate of Participation issued by UMAP Taiwan National Secretariat.

  11. Eligibility An applicant must:
    1. Students who are currently enrolled in academic institutions participating in UMAP’s pledged institutions or whose Pledge of Agreement (PoA) is scheduled to be confirmed during 2019.
    2. Be 18 years of age or older;
    3. Have a good command of the English Language and able to submit proof of one of the following proficiency scores*:
      1. IELTS: overall score of 5.0 or
      2. TOEFL: overall score of 61 iBT / 173 CBT / 500 PBT or
      3. TOEIC: overall Score of 650 or D. Score on another English proficiency test equivalent to the those mentioned above.

        *A student who meets either of the conditions below is exempt from the proficiency test requirements above:
        1. The student is a native English speaker or a citizen from a country in which English is an official language; or
        2. English is the primary medium of instruction at their university/institution.

    4. Be willing to attend and participate in all lectures and activities included in UMAP Discovery Camp 2019.
    5. Be physically fit to travel and able to engage in all activities.
    6. Obtain a visa/permit to enter Taiwan if required.
    7. Purchase international health insurance in their home country which covers both illness and accidents.

  12. How to Apply:

    Step 2 – After receiving nominations, the UMAP Taiwan National Secretariat will notify applicants to complete the application process.
    Step 3 – The Taiwan National Secretariat will announce the list of successful applicants.
    Step 4 – Successful applicants will submit copies of their passport and overseas health insurance via email.

  13. Required Documents:
    1. Online application form.
    2. Complete official transcripts from home university (i.e. all semesters).
    3. Statement of purpose.
    4. A recommendation letter from a faculty member of their home university/institution.

Start of Student Application for the 1st Cycle of Program C (Short-term summer programs 2019)

Dear Students who plan to apply for UMAP Program C 2019,


We are pleased to announce that the first cycle of student applications for Programs C 2019 has started. Program C is short-term (one to eight-week long) programs offered by UMAP Participating universities/institutions. Programs are generally offered between July and September, available in a wide range of disciplines: cultural studies, language proficiency courses, vocational training, entrepreneurship, and more.

If you are interested in participating in one of these programs, please review the information on the website (https://usco.umap.org) about the programs’ contents, length, available credits, language requirement and fees before applying.

The application deadline for UMAP Coordinators at your home institution is 23 March 2019 (for the 1st Cycle) and 28 May 2019 (for the 2nd Cycle); therefore, you need to submit your application according to the adapted schedule of your home institution.


For the acceptance of students’ applications, the following three steps must be completed:

REGISTRATIONStudents should create an account on the UMAP Student Connection Online (USCO) System by registering their email address and password (https://usco.umap.org/std/). For more information about the USCO System, students can check the Student User Manual through this link; http://umap.org/usco/#students-manual

APPLICATIONStudents complete the Application Form in the USCO System for up to three preferred programs and click “Save and Submit”. The USCO System will automatically inform the UMAP coordinators at the home university/institution that an application has been submitted. Applications will be accepted by 23 March 2019 (for the 1st Cycle) and 28 May 2019 (for the 2nd Cycle);

NOMINATIONCoordinators log into the USCO System and check the applications they have received, and nominate them by clicking “Approve”.


Please note;

  1. Only students of universities/institutions that have signed the “Pledge of Agreement” are able to apply for those programs. In addition, home universities/institutions are required to register their Coordinators Information as well as Institution Information on USCO System. To check whether your home institution is eligible or not, please search the following link; https://usco.umap.org/std/unv_join/?nav_flg=1

  2. Unlike Program A&B, their home universities/institutions do not have to participate or offer this program in order for the student to apply for this specific program.

  3. There are no limits for the number of nominees from home universities/institutions.

  4. We only accept applications with endorsements (applications that were approved) from home universities/institutions.

Start of Student Application for the 2nd Cycle of Program A&B 2019-1 (Autumn 2019)

Dear Students who plan to apply for UMAP Program A&B 2019-1 (for Autumn Semester 2019)

 

We are pleased to announce that the second cycle of student applications for Programs A&B 2019-1 (Autumn 2019) has started. If you are interested in participating in one of these programs, please review the information on the website (https://usco.umap.org) about the programs’ contents, length, available credits, language requirement, and fees before applying.

Beginning the previous cycle, all transactions in the application procedure, such as submission of student applications, nominations by home institutions, and acceptance or refusal by host institutions, have been completed using the USCO System.

 

To apply, the following three steps need to be completed by March 5, 2019:

REGISTRATION — Students should create an account on the UMAP Student Connection Online (USCO) System by registering their email address and password (https://usco.umap.org/std/). For more information about the USCO System, students can check the Student User Manual through this link (http://umap.org/usco/#students-manual). 

APPLICATION — Students complete the Application Form in the USCO System for up to five preferred programs and click  “Save and Submit”. The USCO System will automatically inform the UMAP coordinators at the home university/institution that an application has been submitted. Applications will be accepted from February 16 through March 5.

NOMINATION  Coordinators log into the USCO System and check the applications they have received, and nominate up to two students by clicking “Approve as Program A”.   Institutions with additional quotas for outbound students are able to nominate additional students according to the number of quotas they have available. Any additional students you want to nominate can be approved for Program B. Please note:  Students in Program B may be required by their host institutions to pay tuition fees.

Please note;
1.  Only institutions that participate in the 2nd cycle are able to send their students to other participating institutions during the cycle. The list of participating institutions can be checked here.

2.  For Program A-Tuition waived exchange students: Institutions can nominate up to two (2) students per semester; however, institutions that have accepted additional students in the past are able to nominate an equal number of additional students.

3.  For Program B-Tuition non-waived exchange students: Institutions can also nominate additional students for Program B if they do not have quotas available for nominating them for Program A. Following the placement period, host institutions notify accepted students about whether they will study abroad on a tuition-waived or non-waived basis.
