Program A
A multilateral exchange program in which UMAP participating institutions send and receive up to two students per semester. In this case, “multilateral” means that institutions may send students to and receive students from any participating institution. They do not need to send to the same institution or country that they receive students from. To be eligible to send their students on program A exchanges, institutions must also offer to host students on program A exchanges.
If any two UMAP institutions would like to exchange more than two students, they may do so by signing a bilateral agreement with one another (See Program B for details). For program A, participants’ tuition must be waived. The host institution must waive tuition fees and assist students in securing appropriate accommodations at a reasonable cost.
Participating institutions may agree to accept more than two inbound students in return for an extra allocation to send more outbound students in the following semesters. These additional allocation slots do not expire and may be used at any time. These additional allocations are sometimes referred to as “quota.”
Programs may be at the undergraduate or postgraduate level can last one or two semesters, beginning in the fall or spring semester. Participants enroll in academic coursework and should receive credit for their studies. Institutions are encouraged to use the UMAP Credit Transfer Scheme (UCTS) to facilitate the transfer of earned credits back to the visiting students’ home institutions.
